The newest addition to our family of eco-expeditions and adventures in the Riviera Maya. Another incredible combination of Mayan culture, breathtaking natural treasures, delicious Mayan gastronomical treats and unforgettable adventure activities! Break away for half a day and travel with us to Chikin-Ha, an exclusive, protected natural sanctuary that is only a few minutes drive out of Playa del Carmen.

Our journey in Chikin-Ha begins with a bike ride through the farmlands of Don Silvano where you will enjoy the surrounding jungle scenery and learn about local subsistence farming. On arrival at our Rest Area, where we leave our bikes, we will brief you on the adventure that lies ahead:

Our 3-cenote visit

The first cenote, or sinkhole, is shaped like a huge natural rock pool and is surrounded by lush jungle vegetation and filled with emerald-green water. Here you will learn about the natural aspects of cenotes (ecosystemic functioning, fauna and flora) and you will be able to enjoy its refreshing water swimming, snorkeling or just floating on one of our big inner tubes.

The second cenote is shaped like a cavern tunnel, big on the inside and filled with incredible geological formations (stalactites and stalagmites). This crystal clear water is of an incredible aquamarine-blue, and here our guides will teach you about the geological formation of cenotes, how they have been explored, and how cave divers work their way through them. You will also snorkel from one side of the tunnel right through to the other.

You will continue to walk through the jungle to the third cenote which is literally shaped like a huge egg that has collapsed downwards, leaving behind an island surrounded by a moat of clear blue water. Here you will witness a Mayan purification ritual and learn of the religious and cultural importance of the cenotes to the Mayan people.

Our 3 zip-lines

The first zip-line hangs over the first cenote, 60 meters long, so you can fly over this beautiful area enjoying from the air!

The second hangs in the jungle between the first and second cenotes, again 60 meters long but this time with a little more inclination and therefore a little faster! Our third zip-line will leave you breathless! Leaving the third cenote you can climb our 17-meter high tower and launch yourself off of it to fly 160 meters above the forest canopy!

Itinerary

8:00 - 09:00 am.
Pick up and departure for Chikin-Ha

09:00 am.
Arrival at Bike Station. From here we enjoy a leisurely 1.6 km/1mile bike tour through the jungle and farmland of Don Silvano.

09:40 am.
Arrival at Rest Area. Briefing regarding zip-lines and cenotes visits. Refreshment

09:55 am.
Cenote Xta-Bay: swim and learn about the fauna and flora particular to cenotes, ecosystem functioning and the value of cenotes within local ecotourism.

10:25 am.
Cenote Chikin-Ha: Snorkel, swim and learn about the geological formation of cenotes, the scientific study of cenotes and speleo-diving.

10:55 am.
Cenote Aluxes: witness a Mayan purification ritual and learn about the religious significance of cenotes in ancient and current Mayan culture.

11:25 am.

Lunch and drinks. Afterward return to Bike Station.
