Fermín Mundaca de Marechaga, pirate and slave trader, chose Isla Mujeres as its safe haven. Mundaca used his wealth to build a beautiful hacienda for his beloved, “La Trigueña” (The Brunnette), a girl from the island who never felt the same way about him.
This important island for Mayan sailors, pirates and fishermen still preserves its former lighthouse facing the Temple of goddess Ixchel. Just recently renovated, it invites you to visit it and discover the incredible view of the Yucatan Channel and the Pearl of the Mexican Caribbean.
